Forested mountain streams flow downhill to the Puget Sound surrounding this urban metropolis. Known as a home to coffee, tech and creativity, this fast paced center in the Pacific Northwest is perfect for those on the cutting edge. The city of Seattle provides the ideal mix for those who love both the indoors and outdoors all year round combined with the endless amenities this city provides.
Seattle is more than a tech and coffee hub. However, the area is well known for these two things for a reason. Seattle offers a multitude of big name tech employers, in addition to a multitude of tech-oriented entertainment.
Seattle has always been a trendsetter in fashion, music, and food. Called the hipster capital of the nation by many, this metro is know for staying ahead of the curve. Located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, there is also plentiful hiking and outdoor activity only a short drive away from the city. Climbing and skiing are popular winter activities. In summer try enjoying Goldmeyer Hot Springs in the Cascades, or sailing San Juan Islands. Don’t forget the culture with museums such as the Museum of Flight, Seattle Art Museum, or the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture.
It’s a common misconception that Seattle is filled with expensive condos and micro housing. While these options are featured in much of the new area construction, there is a plethora of stylish architecture and multiple size options. Different neighborhoods feature expansive family options or cozy cottages. Explore historical lofts and waterfront lookouts too.
Coffee. As one of the most caffeinated cities in the United States, Seattle is known for its coffee drinkers. You’ll find it hard to walk more than a block or two without running into a tiny cafe or coffee shop. As home of the original Starbucks too, Seattle has more Starbucks per capita than any other US city – about 23 of them for every 100,000 residents.
Books. With this abundance of places to sit and drink coffee, it’s no surprise the Seattlites are highly literate as well. Demonstrating how residents value reading, Seattle consistently ranks at the top of the nation for most literate city in the US.
Beer. Seattle has also taken its well known beverage arts to more adult levels, with the many micro breweries offered in the area. Micro brews are small batches of beer that is distributed on more local levels than comparable national big sellers. Check out some of the areas buzzworthy contributors.
The University of Washington is the most notable four year university, but smaller universities include Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, and Northeastern University.
Besides the tech giants, Seattle has a strong mix of business and industry. Seattle boasts a dropping unemployment rate and growth only surpassed by California for city size. Jobs in retail, construction, technology and manufacturing are rising quickly and steadily.
Seattle offers a diverse array of experiences, with so many unique ways to enjoy them. As trend setters and go getters, Seattle paves the way ahead with culture, coffee and so much more.
